Production Storyboards
Whether your on your first production or you've been here a hundred times, production storyboards will help you save time and money. The last thing you want is to show up the day of the shoot and realize last minute that you need a crane, or a dolly, or more people. Uh-oh! Now you've got to put everything and everybody on hold until you get the equipment you need. Meanwhile you've got crew sitting around and actors twiddling their thumbs. All of this is costing you money!
All joking aside, production storyboards might look like insignificant rough drawings on cheap paper but they convey loads and loads of information vital to every part of your production. Thanks to well prepared storyboards the crew and talent can all be on the same page. now you can sit back and do what you do best...direct. Action!
Presentation Storyboards
All of the best concepts and inventions in history started out as an illustration. Think about it. Have you ever tried to explain an idea for a new product that you came up with and only wonder why no one gets it? Have you ever had an idea for an awesome tv commercial for your favorite shampoo or car but don't know how to get others to see your vision. Well that's where "presentation boards" come in. These highly polished illustrations take what's bouncing around in your frontal lobe and showcase it for the world to see. Now next time you explain your ideas you'll have the perfect visuals to help you.

Production Boards
Storyboarding became popular in live-action film production during the early 1940s, and grew into a standard medium for previsualization of films: "We can see the last half century .... as the period in which production design was largely characterized by adoption of the storyboard", wrote curator Annette Michelson in a 1993 catalog for the Pace Gallery exhibit Drawing into Film: Director's Drawings, which featured storyboards of popular films. Storyboards are now an essential part of the creation progress.Storyboarding's most recent use is outlining websites and other interactive media projects during the design phase.

Martin Scorcese, Alfred Hitchcock, and Ridley Scott are just a few movie directors that use storyboards on their films.
Presentation Boards
Polish and presentation a keys to taking ideas to the next level. Presentation storyboards are very different to production boards in that they can be very vague at times. While production(shooting) boards are used to finalize details, presentation boards are used as a springboard for for great ideas. Without presentation boards and pre-production art in general many productions wouldn't have a chance to take place which means that shooting boards wouldn't get a chance. Kudos to presentation art!
Concepts
Concept art is an integral part to the hashing out of ideas. Sci-fi and monster movies aren't the only productions that benefit from it. Just like with presentation boards concept art is is the way to go when you need help in visualizing all of the important details that will ultimately end up in your finished piece.
